A 24-year-old woman died and a man was hospitalized early Sunday after two men demanding money forced their way into their Ravenel home and shot them, Charleston County Sheriff's deputies said.
Deputies responded to Three Oaks Mobile Home Park at 6386 Savannah Highway, Lot 3, about 2 a.m., Maj. Eric Watson said.
Watson said two armed black males forced their way into the home and demanded money from the male victim and his girlfriend. They fired multiple shots.
Latorria Heyward, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay said. The man, who has not been identified, was taken to the Medical University Hospital.
According to Heyward's Facebook page, she spent Saturday celebrating her daughter's seventh birthday.
"Mommy loves you sweetheart," read the post. "I promise you will enjoy your day!"
In a separate post Heyward referenced plans to be married on July 25 and a series of photos labeled "engagement pictures" showed Heyward and an unnamed man happily posing together.
The incident is under investigation and no suspects have been arrested, Watson said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Charleston County Sheriff's Office at 843-202-1700 or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
