Authorities have identified the man whose body was found in the Stono River Sunday morning.
George Hank Melfi, 39, of Charleston was recovered from the river Sunday after he fell into the river while boating Saturday, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Bobbi Jo O'Neal said. An autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death is scheduled for Monday.
The body was recovered near Ross Marine on Johns Island about 10 a.m., Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson said.
Deputies have been searching Melfi since Saturday when they say two boaters were out on the Stono River when their 13-foot Boston Whaler started having engine problems. One of the boaters fell into the water while they were trying to attempt to secure it to a dock, Watson said.
