A gas leak disrupted traffic for more than two hours Friday morning on East Bay Street near the downtown Historic Charleston City Market.
The road was closed around 8 a.m. between Market Street and Cumberland Street, according to the Charleston Fire Department, but it reopened around 10:30 a.m.
S.C. Electric & Gas crews secured the leak around 10 a.m., and workers at businesses that had been evacuated were allowed to return about 15 minutes later, the department said.
The authorities then reopened East Bay Street.
Firefighters from the St. Andrews and North Charleston fire departments helped handle the situation, along with Charleston County paramedics and Charleston police officers, the city Fire Department said.
