Two men and three women were arrested on prostitution charges late Thursday during a sting by the North Charleston Police Department, an agency official said.
The "pickup operation" by the Selective Police Enforcement to Enhance and Deter team targeted street-level prostitutes, department spokesman Spencer Pryor said in a statement.
Five of the eight people arrested face a misdemeanor charge of solicitation for prostitution and a $470 fine, Pryor said.
Three other people arrested during the effort face misdemeanor charges of drinking in public, public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia.
