Mister Pete, owned by Bob McClam and captained by Alan Neiford, caught and released three sailfish Thursday to take the first-day lead in the MegaDock Billfishing Tournament, the fourth of five tournaments in the South Carolina Governor's Cup Billfishing Series. The tournament continues through Saturday with boats allowed to fish two out of three days, captain's choice. Weigh-ins are 5-7 p.m. at the Charleston City Marina.
Mister Pete, with 600 points, holds a 200-point lead over series co-leader Rascal which released two sailfish Thursday. Rascal is owned by Norman Pulliam and captained by Mark Rogers.
Trick 'em, owned by Curtis Whitaker and captained by Robert Stalcup, released the first sailfish of the event at 8:26 a.m. to take third place and J&B ended day with a sailfish release at 2:02 p.m.
Only seven of the 27 entries elected to use Thursday as a fish day.
Trick 'em had the top dolphin, 37.2 pounds. No tuna or wahoo were weighed Thursday.
