Syked Out and Rascal will be trying to break a tie for the lead in the South Carolina Governor's Cup Billfishing Series when fishing begins Thursday in the 11th annual MegaDock Billfishing Tournament out of the Charleston City Marina.
Approximately 30 boats are expected to participate in the event that runs through Saturday. Boats are allowed to fish two out of three days, captain's choice. Daily weigh-ins are 5-7 p.m., with awards scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Public parking is at the corner of Lockwood Boulevard and Broad Street, with shuttles running from 5-11 p.m. each day.
Syked Out and Rascal both have 2,275 points through three tournaments. Boats score 600 points for releasing blue marlin, 300 points for releasing white marlin, 200 points for releasing sailfish and also receive 25 participation points for each event they fish.
Tournament winners thus far have been Georgetown, Full Pull, with three blue marlin and one white marlin release; Bohicket Marina, Syked Out, with one blue marlin and one sailfish release; and Carolina Billfish Classic, Petrel, with two blue marlin and four sailfish releases.
Last year's MegaDock tournament drew 32 boats. Stream Weaver, owned by Rusty Carter and captained by Mike King, won the MegaDock tournament with a blue marlin and five sailfish releases.
The final tournament in the 2014 Governor's Cup is the Edisto Marina Billfish Tournament scheduled July 24-26.
