COLUMBIA - There were no surprises when South Carolina's player contingent for SEC Media Days was released Wednesday afternoon.
The Gamecocks will showcase three senior leaders next week in Hoover: quarterback Dylan Thompson, left guard A.J. Cann and defensive tackle J.T. Surratt.
For Thompson, it represents his new reality as a starting quarterback in the SEC. He is no longer hidden in the backdrop behind former starter Connor Shaw. Big things are expected of Thompson this season, and his every snap will be in the spotlight.
Cann has been the most decorated South Carolina player this offseason. He's projected as an All-SEC player, if not an All-American. He'll help clear the path for junior running back Mike Davis.
Surratt will be the lone defensive representative, which is fitting. He is the only returning starter along the Gamecocks defensive line, and shoulders a load of responsibility as such.
South Carolina's three seniors, along with coach Steve Spurrier, will go through the media gauntlet Tuesday at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, Ala.
