Jamie Wilson, who just completed his sophomore season at Bishop England, fired a 5-under-par 67 Tuesday to take the first-round lead in the 60th annual Al Esposito Junior golf tournament at Charleston Municipal Golf Course.
Ethan Willis of Mount Pleasant, who won the boys 13-14 age group last year, is second in boys 15-17 after a 2-under 70, and Wilson Yearout, a rising senior at Bishop England, is third with a 2-over 74.
Wilson played a bogey-free round, carding birdies at 2, 8, 12, 15 and 17. Willis had an up-and-down round, making two birdies and three bogeys on the front nine and four birdies and one bogey on the back nine.
Taylor Mayers leads the girls 15-17 with an 86; Jacob Daley shot 75 to lead the boys 13-14 age group; and Luis Thompson shot 35 over nine holes to lead the boys 10-12 division.
