Defensive back Damon Arnette of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., who was on the verge of committing to South Carolina following a visit last month, followed through on those plans Tuesday night when he announced his commitment on Twitter.

Arnette is the 21st commitment for USC's 2015 class and the fifth for the secondary.

Arnette picked the Gamecocks over Ohio State and Kentucky. He made two visits to Columbia last month and saw all the shiny parts of the football program, but that's not what sold him on becoming a Gamecock.

"It was the little things," Arnette said. "The normal, basic things around the campus that other schools don't have that make them stand out. Being up there makes me feels like I'm at home. The palm trees makes it look like Miami. I think that's nice."

Arnette played mostly wide receiver last season but will be a corner this season and at USC. He sees himself fitting in easily with the Gamecock defense.

"I'm looking for early playing time as a freshman," he said. "I'm going to be the biggest corner they have, and they think they can develop me into a great corner. I can be another one like Stephon Gilmore."

The Gamecocks trust Arnette will stick with his commitment even though he plans to follow through on a visit to Ohio State on July 25.

"It will take a whole lot to change," Arnette said.
