A 33-year-old man died in a vehicle wreck on James Island Monday night, authorities said.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office identified the man as Joseph Dangerfield, of Charleston.

The wreck occurred on Central Park and Riverland Drive on James Island at 10:15 p.m. and only involved one vehicle, according to sheriff's officials.

The driver was traveling along Riverland Drive and lost control while approaching an intersection, officials said.

The car slid, struck a tree and then flipped. The driver, whose name has not yet been released, died at the scene.

Investigators said speed was a factor in the wreck.
