A dirt road crunches past lowland woods and the occasional horse field in rural Meggett. Charleston's sounds, and those of U.S. Highway 174, faded miles ago.
In a nondescript spot, an address marker and narrow lane appear on the left. The ride through lowland forest ends. In its place, the landscape opens up to wide, grassy grounds ringed by large trees. Continuing west, the football field-long unimproved driveway bends to the front of a three-tier house, built beside centuries-old oaks casting massive shadows.
The owners erected the house, at 4393 Park Island Road, a dozen years ago. From the back porch, views widen even more to sky's-the-limit scenes of marsh, tidal rivulets and Toogoodoo Creek. Travel the creek, and it connects to the Edisto River. The Intracoastal Waterway flows just 10 minutes away by boat.
"I could live here," says Peggy Ricker, Realtor for Carolina One Real Estate and listing agent for 4393 Park Island Road. "It would make such a wonderful home," says Ricker, who actually resides just a few miles away.
The 2,312-square-foot house, sporting a dock and boat lift and on a 2.32 acres of land, lists for $770,000.
"It's a great piece of property on outstanding deep water," says Peggy's son Gregory Ricker, likewise a Realtor with Carolina One Real Estate.
In their description of the property for sale, Peggy Ricker highlights the residence's upscale insides complementing its pristine location.
The custom built house, according to the listing, boasts "magnificent views on deep water" and sits just 1.5 miles from the Edisto River - which doubles for the ICW in places.
For the boating enthusiast, the property comes well-equipped. There's a floating dock, fixed pier head and 8,000-pound boat lift, she says. Meanwhile, the house touts 177 foot frontage on the body of water just off the back yard, known as Tom Creek. The creek stands six feet at low tide, putting the property on "prime deep water," she says.
Also spotlighting the exterior are oak trees from the 1800s and a more recent edition - a sizable flower garden, Ricker says.

Although miles from towns, the property stands quite close to area amenities.

The house resides near the middle of Park Island Road. Heading south, take Savannah Highway out of town. Continue for about 10 miles to S.C. Highway 174 at Adams Run. Turn left on Highway 174 and go for another six miles or so. Veer left on White Point Road. Follow White Point for about two miles. Make a left on Park Island Road. Ahead of the left is 4393 Park Island Road.
