One person was killed in a shooting Sunday evening near Rivers Avenue, according to North Charleston Police.
Police were called to Alton Street at the intersection of Rivers Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch.
Police Spokesman Spencer Pryor said when police arrived they found a man who had been shot and killed.
Witnesses reportedly told police that there was an argument between the man and another person earlier on Sunday, Pryor said. A short time later, a car pulled up and shots were fired at the man, Pryor said. The incident took place near Rivers Market at the corner of Rivers Avenue and Alton Street.
The Charleston County Coroner's Office did not release the man's name Sunday night.
Sunday's shooting was the second shooting over the weekend in North Charleston. Police are also investigating a shooting Saturday night on West Montague Avenue near Interstate 526 about two miles from the shooting on Sunday. During that incident, a patrol officer saw two men running from the area before one of the men flagged the officer down to report the other man had been shot.
Pryor said the men reported they were on the exit ramp of I-526 when a gray sedan with dark tinted windows pulled up beside them and began firing. Police found a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee nearby crashed into some bushes with the driver door open. The vehicle was still running and in drive, he said.
The wounded man was taken to Medical University Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Both shootings remain under investigation.
