Contract negotiations for the incoming president of the Medical University of South Carolina are ongoing, a spokeswoman confirmed this week.
Dr. David Cole, current chairman for the MUSC Department of Surgery and president of MUSC Physicians, was named the university's new president in April.
MUSC spokeswoman Heather Woolwine said the Board of Trustees expects a final compensation package by its August meeting. Cole, who was tentatively scheduled to start his new job July 1, earns approximately $825,000 in his current role. His new salary has not been determined.
He replaces former MUSC President Ray Greenberg, who left Charleston last year for a position within the University of Texas hospital system.
At MUSC, Greenberg made more than $750,000 a year, which included his state employee base pay and a privately funded compensation package.
