With the World Cup, Carolina Day and now Fourth of July, it seems we've all had a healthy dose of stars and stripes recently.
"#America" has been trending on social media feeds for weeks, "USA" chants have been heard from outside nearly every bar, and I've worn my denim shorts with American flags for pockets twice this week.
Retailers are hoping to tap into that wave of patriotism with weekend-only Fourth of July sales, which are as diverse as they are plentiful. Here's a rundown of the best deals.
Outdoor and athletic
Dick's Sporting Goods advertised its "Under the Tent" sale, which boasts huge markdowns on big-ticket items. Through Saturday, canopies, boat toys and inner tubes, mountain bikes and golf clubs are all 50 percent off. There also are big sales on outdoor games and fishing gear.
Sports Authority has some good deals on athletic gear this weekend. Nike apparel for men and women, which rarely goes on sale, is 20-30 percent off right now.
At Half-Moon Outfitters, all women's dresses are 50 percent off through Sunday.
If you're in the market for a replacement appliance or an upgrade, this weekend is a good time to do it. At Best Buy and Lowe's, holiday sales highlight appliances, with 10-30 percent off washers, dryers, refrigerators and stove-tops. Best Buy also offers 18-month financing. One LG refrigerator advertised this week at Best Buy is listed for $995, more than 40 percent off the original retail price. At Lowe's, the sale means a $450 washer or dryer could end up costing less than $300, and stove-tops for less than $500.
JCPenney is having a Fourth of July Home Sale through Sunday, with 40-50 percent off furniture, home decor, comforter sets, cookware and mattresses. Sofas that typically cost $1,800-$2,000 are now half-price, sets of two decorative pillows are $25, and area rugs range from $89-$235.
Anna's Linens' sale, which goes though July 13, features $30 bed-in-a-bag sets, $25 sheet sets and curtains for as low as $10 each.
If you found your closet lacking a go-to patriotic shirt this year, you might want to check stores such as Old Navy and Target. They tend to have big markdowns on patriotic garb the day after Independence Day each year. For more Summer apparel deals, check out the sales at Tanger Outlet Center in North Charleston. Dozens of the stores will have sales of up to 50 percent off or more through Sunday.
