MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Officials in both Carolinas are discussing a project to make it easier to travel in the congested Myrtle Beach area.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports the idea is to extend the Carolina Bays Parkway, state Highway 31, into North Carolina. The expressway which parallels U.S. 17 now ends at state Highway 9.
The Grand Strand Area Transportation Study committee says the project is a top priority and could be financed with money saved in building the southern end of the parkway now under construction.
Brunswick County, North Carolina, Board of Commissioners Chairman Phil Norris says a final route for the project needs to be decided. Norris says the project could then move up the North Carolina construction priority list.
