A North Charleston teenager left a dead squirrel and a note saying "Hail Satan!" after vandalizing a church at least twice, according to investigators.
Ashton Taylor Clayton, 19, of Indigo Fields Boulevard was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of malicious injury to property to a place of worship.
Peace Lutheran Church at 8315 Dorchester Road was vandalized several times since May, according to the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office.
A staff member called the Sheriff's Office on May 20 to say she saw a man wearing a black hoodie behind the church destroying a statue of St. Francis. She said this was the third time this had happened in the past week.
The pastor called the Sheriff's Office on June 28 saying somebody had torn up the church's garden, thrown eggs on the front door and placed a dead squirrel and note in the mailbox. The note said "Hail Satan! Hail Odin! Hail Anarchy!" and contained drawings of a pentagram, anarchy sign and Celtic or Nordic rune and was signed as Count Grishhok, according to the incident report.
Investigators discovered that Count Grishhok is the stage name of a Norwegian black metal artist who was convicted of murder and the arson of three churches and is affiliated with an organization known as Heathen Front.
Clayton was being held in the Dorchester County jail Wednesday.
