The Charleston RiverDogs got a pitching boost Tuesday when the New York Yankees sent their top pick in the 2014 Major League draft to their Class A South Atlantic League affiliate.
Former Mississippi State closer Jacob Lindgren is a second-round selection and the 55th overall pick.
A lefty, Lindgren went 6-1 out of the Bulldogs' bullpen this season, touching 95 mph with his fastball.
Right-handed pitcher Chad Taylor also joins Lindgren as a new member of the RiverDogs. Charleston right-handed pitcher Brett Gerritse will be promoted to the Single-A Tampa Yankees while lefty Evan Rutckyj has been placed on the disabled list retroactive to June 30.
Lindgren in 2013 was a sophomore starter for the Bulldogs, who were the College World Series runners-up to UCLA. As a junior, he had a 0.81 ERA, three saves and 100 strikeouts with 25 walks.
The RiverDogs are at Savannah through Thursday night but open a six-game homestand starting July 4.
