The city of Charleston has scheduled a public meeting on the proposed Late Night Bar and Restaurant ordinance.
The meeting is at 5:30 p.m. July 17 in the auditorium of the Charleston Museum at 360 Meeting St.
The ordinance would require any new restaurant, bar or convenience store in designated areas of King Street, the Market Area and Meeting Street to close by midnight.
At the meeting, Mayor Joe Riley and City Planning Director Tim Keane will present the background, facts and technical aspects of the ordinance and then solicit comments.
The proposed ordinance also will go to the Planning Commission Aug. 20 for a public hearing and recommendations for City Council. The city has not announced the time and location for that meeting.
