Two stranded kayakers were rescued from the water in Awendaw late Tuesday afternoon.

The kayakers were reported in distress near Gadsensville Road boat landing about 5:30 p.m, Charleston County Rescue Squad Assistant Chief Trae Wright said.

The Rescue Squad, Awendaw Fire Department, S.C. Department of Natural Resources, Charleston County Sheriff's Office and Isle of Palms Fire Department sent crews to help. Crews launched two jet skis and a boat from the Isle of Palms marina and the Rescue Squad airboat from the boat landing.

The kayakers were rescued by the airboat crew and brought back to the boat landing, Wright said. The kayakers were checked out and said they had no need of medical attention.

Anybody going out on the water should always file a float plan with family and friends and have a fully charged cellphone in case of an emergency, Wright said.
