Heavy rain and lightning forced the Charleston Battery to suspend their match against the Richmond Kickers on Friday night at Blackbaud Stadium.

The match, which was stopped in the 18th minute because of a lightning strike less than two miles from the stadium, will be made up at a future date. That date will be announced in the next couple of weeks, said Charleston Battery President Andrew Bell.

Under USL Pro rules, the match will resume in the 18th minute with the score tied at 0-0.

Both teams will be allowed to make three substitutes to the current roster. Richmond defender Henry Kalumgi was issued a yellow card in the 16th minute.

The Kickers are scheduled to play the Wilmington Hammerheads Saturday night in Wilmington, N.C. The Battery's next match will be July 5 at Harrisburg City. The Battery returns home on July 12 against the Charlotte Eagles.

Fans can use the tickets for the Richmond game for any future Battery match this season.
