An investigation has determined that the man who shot a Moncks Corner man to death in April later killed himself while being pursued by North Charleston police, authorities said Friday.
According to Dorchester County sheriff's deputies, the bullet that was fired into 24-year-old Drew Mitsuo Shumway's head was shot from the same gun used in the April 24 suicide of Peter Andrew Villa, 23, of Summercourt Drive in Summerville.
Shumway was found dead April 11 in Ridgeville. He was reported missing to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office five days before the discovery.
A witness reportedly heard Villa confess to Shumway's killing, authorities said. The motive, according to deputies, was robbery.
Phone records showed that Shumway and Villa were in contact numerous times leading up to Shumway's disappearance, authorities said.
Weeks later, a North Charleston police chase through the Deer Park neighborhood ended when Villa shot himself in the head, authorities said.
Investigators aren't searching for any other suspects in the case.
