COLUMBIA - Coastal Logistics Group, a logistics provider and warehouse operator, has a new facility in Dorchester County to serve customers shipping through the Port of Charleston. The $1.2 million investment has created 30 new jobs and is expected to create another 30 in the coming months.
CLG is operating the facility as part of an alliance with Kuehne + Nagel Inc., a global logistics provider. CLG's 200,000-square-foot facility, at 2725 W. 5th North St. in Summerville, offers services for customers that ship goods internationally through the State Ports Authority's terminals. The company plans to expand into the power generation, construction and aerospace industries and offer both import and export services, according to a statement from the governor's office.
In addition to the Dorchester County facility, CLG operates in Norfolk, Va.; Memphis and Savannah. Kuehne + Nagel is part of a group of companies that has more than 1,000 logistics offices in more than 100 countries, including a branch office in Charleston.
"We have endeavored for years to establish an operation in Charleston to service our clients and we are glad to be a part of the community," Chad Barrow, CEO of Coastal Logistics Group, said in a statement.
In welcoming the new company, SPA president and CEO Jim Newsome said, "They offer highly specialized services for shipping international cargo, and their presence will no doubt drive increases in container volume through our capable Charleston facilities."
