North Charleston police on Friday arrested a man and woman accused of binding a woman's hands and feet with rope and sexually assaulting her.
John Thomas Barrs, Jr., 27, and Amber Nicole Roan, 29, are both charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping. The pair share a home on Alton Street in North Charleston, according to a police report.
Officers responded to a Clifton Street home around 7 a.m. Friday after a woman there told her husband that she had been raped by Barrs and Roan, the report said.
The husband reported to police that his wife had duct tape on her mouth and her shorts around her neck. Her arms and feet were bound together with rope, the report said.
When questioned by investigators, the woman reported that she had been hanging out with Barrs and Roan when she took a break to go to the bathroom. When she returned, she told police, the pair pushed her onto a bed and held her down.
She passed out after Barrs and Roan gave her something to drink, police said. She later awoke to find her mouth covered with duct tape and her hands tied, the report said.
The woman escaped through a bedroom window and ran to her home, police said. She told police she wasn't certain if any sexual acts were performed on her. She was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina for treatment and testing.
Barrs was being held at the Charleston County jail Monday on $150,000 in bail. Bail was set at $50,000 for Roan, jail records show.
