MOUNT PLEASANT - Petrel's long day at the Toler's Cove Marina Saturday resulted in a happy ending in the Carolina Billfish Classic, the third of five events in the South Carolina Governor's Cup Billfishing Series.

Petrel, owned by Harry Johnson Jr. and captained by John Thomas, had already used its two allotted fishing days, releasing two blue marlin and four sailfish, and finished first in the tournament with 2,000 points.

Sportin' Life also spent the day at the dock but retained second place. Sportin' Life, owned by Manly and Graham Eubank and captained by Mike Glaesner, finished with 1,200 points, releasing two blue marlin.

Rascal, owned by Norman Pulliam and captained by Mark Rogers, had the top day of the 15 boats that could fish Saturday, releasing a blue marlin and sailfish to go along with a sailfish caught earlier in the tournament, amassing 1,000 points.

Mister Pete won the dolphin division with a 42.6-pound catch Friday; Three J's had the top wahoo, 52.4 pounds; and Syked Out won the tuna division with a 17.2-pound catch Saturday.

Twenty of the 28 boats in the Carolina Billfish Classic released at least one billfish during the tournament. Nine blue marlin, one white marlin and 23 sailfish were released during the tournament.

The next event in the South Carolina Governor's Cup Billfishing Series is the MegaDock Billfishing Tournament on July 10-12 out of the Charleston City Marina.
