The Dorchester Prosperity Center will hold a free mortgage clinic on Wednesday for homeowners who are having trouble paying, facing foreclosure, or fear they might be unable to make payments in the future.
The clinic will be by appointment only from 3 to 7 p.m. at the center's office at 222 Trolley Road in Summerville.
The event will be led by representatives of Family Services Inc., a HUD-approved nonprofit organization based in North Charleston, with a mortgage default mitigation program that is one of the top-ranked in the nation.
Homeowners will meet one-on-one with a mortgage default adviser to see if they qualify for mortgage modifications, bringing past mortgage payments current, lowered interest rates or lower monthly mortgage payments.
The clinic is free and open to all homeowners, regardless of lender or county of residence.
Participants should bring a mortgage statement, correspondence from their lender or attorney, two pay stubs for everyone in the household, proof of other forms of income, the two most current bank statements, most recent tax return with W-2s and recent utility bills.
Call the Dorchester Prosperity Center at 843-282-6294 or 843-761-6033 to make an appointment.
