Nick Ciuffo, the Mount Pleasant native picked in the first round of the 2013 Major League draft, will make his 2014 season debut Thursday night with the Princeton (W. Va.) Rays of the Appalachian League. The Rays are a rookie league affiliate of the Tampa Rays.

Ciuffo played for two years at Wando High School baseball in Mount Pleasant before transferring to Lexington High School, helping the Wildcats win the 2013 Class AAAA state championship.

Ciuffo, 19, hit .258 in 159 at-bats with the Rays' Gulf Coast League team last summer after receiving a $1,974,700 signing bonus plus a $96,000 college allowance.
