The Charleston County Coroner's Office identified the man pulled Tuesday from a creek near Stono Ferry as 74-year-old James Taylor of Wyoming.
An official cause of death was not available Wednesday, Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay said.
Rescuers were called about 8 a.m. to 4465 Francis Yonge Way to look for a man in the water at Log Bridge Creek, Charleston County Rescue Squad Assistant Chief Trae Wright said. The creek runs westward from the Stono River in the Hollywood area.
A homeowner said he saw an older man in the water having trouble and asked if he needed help, Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson said. The man in the water said he was fine until he went under and didn't resurface, the homeowner told deputies.
