Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. is shedding inventory from its warehouse near Summerville over the next three days.
The grocery merchandise stored at 1125 Newton Way will be sold for up to 70 percent off suggested retail prices, according to the company, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The sale is open to the public.
Grocery items, cleaning supplies, health and beauty products, frozen foods and tobacco products are up for grabs.
The grocer announced in November that it was shutting the 612,000-square-foot distribution center in Jedburg area, along with its warehouse in North Charleston. Agro Merchants is leasing the refrigerated section of the Summerville property. Its move-in date is set for August.
The Pig partnered several months ago with C&S Wholesale Grocers to supply its remaining stores in South Carolina and Georgia. At least two more have closed in the past few weeks in Orangeburg.
Piggly Wiggly sold 29 of its stores, including more than half of those in the Lowcountry, to Bi-Lo and Harris Teeter in October. Harris Teeter picked up seven in the Charleston area for an undisclosed price. Bi-Lo acquired 22, which included five locally, for about $35 million.
On the runway
Rolling Rack Boutique, one of the area's only mobile apparel shops, is putting on a summer fashion show at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at The Republic Garden and Lounge at 462 King St. in Charleston. Admission is free and complimentary appetizers and champagne will be served at 7 p.m. until showtime. Salty Girls, a local women's boutique at 976 Houston Northcutt Blvd. in Mount Pleasant, is also showcasing swimsuits on the catwalk.
On the wing
Wild Wing Cafe at 7618 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston is holding Wingstock Extravaganza, an outdoor event with live music from 1 p.m.-1:30 a.m. Sunday. There will be beer trucks and yard games such as cornhole. Also, DJ Natty Heavy, Tricknee and other local acts will perform.
Moving down the road
Charlotte-based Cato is relocating its Summerville store at 9730 Dorchester Road to the newly opened Corner at Wescott Shopping Center in North Charleston at 9500 Dorchester Road. The women's retailer will open in the new location on June 26.
NOTE: A previous version of this article provided the wrong address for the Wingstock Extravaganza. Wild Wing Cafe in North Charleston will host the event.
