COLUMBIA - The success South Carolina's athletics department is having on the field is being matched in the classroom.
South Carolina student-athletes combined to exceed a 3.0 GPA this spring for the 15th straight semester, the school announced Wednesday. The athletics department followed a 3.161 accumulative GPA in the fall semester with a 3.222 GPA in the spring.
"Achieving success in the classroom and your sport go hand-in-hand," said Maria Hickman, associate athletics director for academics/student development. "It is an incredible achievement, and one that we will continue to stress. Our student-athletes work hard, and our coaches and Dodie academic staff are a key factor in our success. I want to thank them all for the passion and time they give our student-athletes."
More than 300 student-athletes earned GPAs above 3.0 for the spring, with 59 of them posting a 4.0 GPA to earn spots on the President's List, according to the school. Women's tennis earned the highest GPA of all teams for both semesters, recording a 3.619 in the fall and 3.656 in the spring. Both men's and women's basketball recorded GPAs above 3.0, while football posted over a 2.8 GPA.
