As tensions increase in Iraq, cable television news shows are turning to many of the same people who were regular guests during the 2001-2003 buildup to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, including S.C. Sen. Lindsey Graham. This did not escape the notice of comedian Jon Stewart, according to a blog post today by Erik Wemple, a blogger at The Washington Post.
In the segment on "The Daily Show," Stewart showed 2001 clips of Graham urging the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol warning about Hussein's weapons of mass destruction and Paul Wolfowitz talking about Iraq's ability to finance its own reconstruction.
In light of recent events, Stewart continued, the news media have "rushed to get the band back together again," Kristol appeared on ABC News. Wolfowitz on NBC News, and Graham on CBS News and CNN.
