Fatal wrecks in 2014

The S.C. Department of Public Safety reported 321 people killed statewide in wrecks between Jan. 1 and June 15. In 2013, 331 deaths were reported during the same time period, state officials said.

Eight people were killed statewide in weekend wrecks, preliminary reports show.

According to the state Department of Public Safety, seven of the eight deaths reported between Friday and Sunday occurred on U.S., state and secondary roads, with the remaining fatality occurring on an interstate.

A motorcyclist, pedestrian and moped rider were among those killed, authorities said.

The deaths brought this year's total to 321, compared with the 331 highway deaths reported this time last year, officials said.

Of this year's deaths, 16 were reported in Charleston County. Berkeley and Dorchester counties respectively reported 10 and seven deaths, Public Safety numbers show.
