A graduate of Summerville High School is appearing on "Jeopardy!" tonight.
Andrea Prospero West is an English literature professor at Midlands Technical College in Columbia. She could not be immediately reached for comment, but sister Suzanne P. Lesage of Summerville confirmed her sibling will be a contestant on Monday's edition of the long-running game show.
It starts at 7:30 p.m. on WCBD-TV 2.
"She didn't tell me anything," Lesage said Monday. "She taped it a few months ago. I don't know if she won or not."
Their parents, Angelo and Theresa Prospero, also live in Summerville
Lesage said the family moved to the Lowcountry in 1989 from the Buffalo-Rochester area of western New York. West graduated from Summerville High in 1991 and then from University of South Carolina Honors College, her sister said. West also earned a master's degree from USC.
"She's very smart," Lesage said.
She said the family "encouraged her forever to go and take the test" that "Jeopardy!" uses to select contestants. She was then called to Nashville for a tryout.
"I guess she did very well there," Lesage said. "They put her in pool of another 1,800 people, and they keep your name on the list for 18 months. After just a few months, they called her and told her to come to California."
She squares off against two-time winner Katie Frank, who has won $40,800, and an unknown contestant.
