Bushido Japanese Restaurant, the West Ashley restaurant best known for its spicy tuna hand roll challenge immortalized on "Man v. Food", last week opened a second location on Isle of Palms.

The Island Center opening represents the restaurant's second stab at expansion. Bushido in early 2013 opened a Summerville location, but it was short-lived: The last online review of the Summerville restaurant was posted in February.

"They closed down for a long time already," said a staffer who answered the phone at the West Ashley restaurant, explaining that Bushido gained a new owner last year.

According to the employee, the Isle of Palms location will closely mirror the West Ashley restaurant, where the menu includes hibachi, tempura and baroque sushi rolls stuffed with cream cheese, spicy mayonnaise, jalapenos and avocado.

"It's almost like the same menu, but different prices," the staffer said. "West Ashley is more reasonable."

Bushido is located at 1515 Palm Blvd, one of three newcomers to the strip mall: The Island Eye News reported Yobe Yogurt and Pizza Hut also opened outlets in the shopping center this month.
