MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - A memorial service is being held in Myrtle Beach for the 89 firefighters who died in 2013.
About 60 families are expected to attend the service, which will be held Saturday afternoon in Ballroom A of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. A pipe-and-drum band will escort families into the ballroom. A video collage that includes each firefighter will be shown, and each family will receive a plaque and a rose.
Among those who will be remembered is Assistant Chief Rodney Hardee of the Loris Fire Department, who died in July of what was believed to be a stroke after he responded to a brush fire.
