Friends of Brandon Bennett, the 19-year-old who was fatally stabbed when somebody broke into his house Wednesday morning, are planning a candelight vigil for him at 7 p.m. Monday at Charleston's Waterfront Park.
People are asked to wear white and bring a candle and a blue balloon.
A Facebook page called "Shine Bright for Brandon" is promoting the vigil. Bennett is smiling in a photo on the page.
"That's the way he was," said Carli Drayton, who went to James Island High School with Bennett and is organizing the vigil. "That's how everybody remembers him, always smiling."
Friends and relatives said he never caused any trouble and was always polite. He was attending Trident Technical College.
Bennett's father chased a man out of the house on Congress Street around 8 a.m. Wednesday, then came back inside to find that his son had been fatally stabbed.
An arrest warrant was issued for Terrell Smith, 17, of Audubon Avenue in North Charleston. Police were still looking for him Saturday, spokesman Charles Francis said.
