BEAUFORT, S.C. - One person is hospitalized in Charleston after a bus carrying special-needs passengers flipped on its side in Beaufort County.
Nine other people were hurt in the accident Wednesday that caused a three-vehicle pileup.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported that the bus driver and seven passengers were taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, as were the driver and a passenger in a pickup truck. With the exception of the bus passenger taken to Charleston, all the others were treated and released.
Police say the driver of the 16-passenger bus swerved to avoid an object in the road.
The bus rolled on its side and slide into oncoming traffic, hitting the pickup truck head on. A second pickup truck then hit the back of the first truck.
