A 26-year-old man was shot and wounded in West Ashley Thursday, according to Charleston police.
The shooting was reported about 5:20 p.m. near West Robinhood Drive and Nottingham Drive, according to an incident report. The neighborhood is off Ashley River Road near Wappoo Road. Officers said they found shell casings in the road in front of 1578 W. Robinwood Dr.
The victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital in a private vehicle and then by EMS to Medical University Hospital, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said.
The man was named in the incident report, although the newspaper ordinarily does not publish the names of victims of violence unless they are charged with a crime. A check of court records shows that he was out on bail after being arrested in April and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and resisting arrest. He also pled guilty in 2009 to unlawful carrying of a pistol.
