Thunderstorms are possible again Wednesday afternoon after the Charleston area saw a record high temperature the day before.

The National Weather Service said the high at its North Charleston station on Tuesday was 97 degrees, which tied the mark for the date that also was hit in 1963 and 1941.

Normally, it reaches only about 88 degrees this time of year. It was 95 on Monday, which was 4 degrees off the record for that date.

Temperatures should climb into the 90s again on Wednesday, when the Charleston area will see a chance for a thunderstorm. Some storms could become severe with large hail and excessive lightning.
