COLUMBIA - If South Carolina senior guard A.J. Cann is paying attention to any media reports this summer, he knows a big fall is expected from him.
Cann headlined a list of six South Carolina football players who were named to Athlon's preseason All-SEC team Wednesday. The 318-pound left guard was the only Gamecocks player on the first team.
Cann, a team captain last fall, has started a team-high 38 games in his career. He started all 12 last season. He was already named to Phil Steele's preseason All-SEC First Team earlier this month.
Junior tailback Mike Davis and sophomore linebacker Skai Moore were named to the preseason All-SEC Second Team. Davis, a second team All-SEC selection last season, rushed for 1,183 yards and 11 touchdowns as a sophomore. Moore was a second team Freshman All-American last season after leading South Carolina with 56 tackles and a team-high four interceptions.
Senior left tackle Corey Robinson and sophomore kicker Elliott Fry were on the preseason All-SEC Third Team. Robinson has started 22 games in his career and should combine with Cann to form a dominant left side of the Gamecocks offensive line. Fry was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team last fall after connecting on 15-of-18 field goals and scoring 99 points, the fourth-highest single-season total in South Carolina history.
Junior receiver Shaq Roland was named to the preseason All-SEC Fourth Team. Roland caught 25 passes for 455 yards and five touchdowns last season.
