COLUMBIA, S.C. - Incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson has easily won nomination to a seventh full term in Congress.
In early returns on Tuesday, Wilson collected 86 percent of the vote to swamp Eddie McCain in the state's 2nd District reaching from Columbia southwest to the Savannah River in the Aiken area.
Wilson was first elected in 2001 in a special election. He previously faced McCain, who ran then as a Libertarian.
McCain is from Batesburg-Leesville and retired after serving 20 years in the Army as a noncommissioned officer.
Wilson now advances to the November election in which he faces the winner of the district's Democratic primary between Ed Greenleaf against Phil Black.
