COLUMBIA, S.C. - A retired worker with the federal Small Business Administration has defeated a fellow retiree to capture the Democratic nomination in the state's 2nd Congressional District.
Phil Black from the Lake Murray area of Lexington County collected 54 percent of the vote in unofficial results to defeat Ed Greenleaf of Columbia. Greenleaf is a retired BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina executive.
Black now goes on to face incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson in the fall. Wilson easily won the GOP nomination to seek another term on Tuesday.
House District Two stretches from Columbia southwest to Aiken.
