A 19-year-old man was killed when a car ran off the road on S.C. Highway 61 late Friday, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Grant Alexander Opoulos, 19, of West Richardson Avenue in Summerville, died of massive head trauma, Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet said.

A 2007 BMW was traveling north on S.C. 61 near the Charleston-Dorchester county line when the driver apparently lost control and veered off the road about 11:20 p.m., Highway Patrol Sgt. Bob Beres said.

The car hit several trees, ejecting both the driver and a passenger. It was not immediately clear who was driving, Beres said.

The other occupant was taken to a hospital. His condition was not immediately available.

Neither of the two occupants was wearing a seat belt, Beres said.
