Two fatal wrecks were reported in Berkeley County Saturday.
In the first wreck, a 42-year-old Summerville man was killed and two other men injured shortly after midnight when a driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel on Interstate 26, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
John Alexander Scott III of Summerville, a passenger, died at the scene, Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said.
The driver of the 2007 Dodge was heading toward Charleston on I-26 when he went into the median near the 189 mile marker, Highway Patrol Sgt. Bob Beres said.
The vehicle overturned and struck a tree. The driver and another passenger were taken to Medical University Hospital.
They were both wearing seat belts, but Scott was not wearing a seat belt, Beres said.
The second fatal wreck was about 2:20 p.m. on Nelson Ferry Road.
A 1997 Chevy pickup was traveling west and tried to turn left into a driveway, Beres said. The pickup collided with a Suzuki motorcycle traveling east.
The motorcycle rider was not wearing a helmet and was killed, Beres said.
Piere Yeadon, 32, of Moncks Corner was pronounced dead at the scene from head and body trauma, Salisbury said.
