A 27-year-old woman was arrested Saturday morning after allegedly pointing a handgun at a police officer.
Josephine Lynette Washington was charged with pointing and presenting a firearm, according to North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor. She was being held in the Charleston County jail Saturday.
Police were dispatched to an apartment building on Rebecca Street for a verbal dispute about 7 a.m.,, Pryor said. When officers arrived, they talked with a woman and three men who were involved in the dispute.
After resolving the incident, the officer was escorting the three men to the parking lot and was about to leave when he said he heard the woman say, "I'll give you a reason to leave."
The officer looked up and saw the woman on a second-story balcony pointing a handgun at him. The officer drew his service weapon and fired one round, which struck the side of the building, Pryor said. The woman ran inside, but after a few minutes, she came outside and was taken into custody.
According to court records, Washington lives on Seaside Lane in James Island.
