Syked Out took the lead Friday in the Bohicket Marina Invitational Billfish Tournament, the second of five events comprising the South Carolina Governor's Cup Billfishing Series.
No billfish were weighed in but Syked Out released a blue marlin and a sailfish under tough fishing conditions to earn 800 points, 600 for the blue and 200 for the sailfish. The boat, owned by David Sykes and captained by Dan Woody, finished second in the Georgetown Blue Marlin Tournament two weeks ago with two blue marlin releases.
Second place with 600 points for a blue marlin release is held by Miss Wy, owned by Ed Holder and captained by Matt Wilkinson.
Mister Pete, owned by Bob McClam and captained by Alan Neiford, is third with 200 points for a sailfish release.
There were only two other billfish releases Friday, sailfish by Jabez and Anticipation.
Sportin' Life, owned by Manly and Graham Eubank and captained by Mike Glaesner, took the lead in the dolphin division with a 47.4-pound catch. No tuna or wahoo have been weighed.
The tournament wraps up Saturday and all 22 entries are eligible to fish. The weigh-in begins at 5 p.m.
