SPARTANBURG, S.C. - A Spartanburg County woman has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of her husband nearly four years ago.
The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported that a jury on Thursday returned the guilty verdict against Caroline Manis for the death of Alan Manis at their home in Pacolet.
Circuit Judge Roger Couch sentenced Manis to two years in prison.
She had been charged with murder but jurors returned the guilty verdict on the lesser charge.
Investigators said Alan Manis died after a shotgun was placed in his mouth and fired. Defense attorneys contended he killed himself.
Prosecutors said the woman told 911 dispatchers she had killed her husband.
Caroline Manis apologized in court before she was sentenced.
