Scoring conditions didn't improve much for the 63 contestants during Thursday's final qualifying round for the South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship being played at Seabrook Island Club's Ocean Winds course.

No one broke par and only three players matched par-72 in the Carolinas Golf Association Championship, but the field has been whittled to 32 for the match play portion of the tournament that begins Friday and concludes with an 18-hole championship Sunday.

First-round leader Brian Langley of Bluffton managed to win medalist honors, defeating Alex Finke of Rock Hill in a one-hole playoff on the course's 411-yard par-4 18th. The two tied at 3-over-par 137. Langley posted rounds of 70 and 77 while Finke shot 72 and 75.

Julian Keur of Summerville, who has signed to play at Charleston Southern, finished third, one stroke behind Langley and Finke.

In the playoff Langley hit the fairway, knocked it on the green and two-putted for a par. Finke drove in the right rough, hit it over the green, chipped to two feet but missed his par putt.

The final two spots in match play were decided in a three-for-two playoff at161 with Joe Davis of Chapin and Taylor Ingle of Winnsboro advancing on the first extra hole with Sean McAvoy of Johns Island missing out.

Langley made four birdies Thursday but had five bogeys and two double bogeys in his round of 77. Finke had three birdies and six bogeys
