The South Carolina Governor's Cup Billfishing Series is experiencing a trend this season. For the second straight tournament, rough sea conditions kept all but one boat at the dock on Thursday's opening day of the Bohicket Marina Invitational Billfish Tournament.
The Savannah boat Trashman, owned by Burke Wall and captained by Bert Kline, was the lone contestant out of 22 entries to venture out. Trashman did not catch any billfish but did weigh in a 40.6-pound dolphin, caught by Brian DeMille.
Trashman plans to use Friday as a lay day, meaning 21 boats are scheduled to fish Friday and 22 plan to fish Saturday. Participants in Governor's Cup tournaments are allowed to fish two out of three days.
Weigh-ins Friday and Saturday begin at 5 p.m.
