College of Charleston pitcher Bailey Ober was named a freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball on Wednesday.
A native of Huntersville, N.C., Ober also finished runner-up for national Freshman Pitcher of the Year. The honor is the first national award for Ober, who won the CAA Rookie of the Year title and CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
Ober's talents this season were also noticed by the coaching staff of USA Baseball. He has been invited to the USA Baseball training camp on June 19 where he will compete for a chance to make the 24-player final roster. The final roster is announced on June 29.
As a true freshman starter, Ober ranks 23rd in the country and second among freshmen with a 1.55 ERA. He has a 10-2 record and sports a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 0.87, ranking ninth in the nation. He has 81 strikeouts and just 19 walks.
Ober is slated to make his next start Sunday in Game 2 of the Super Regional at Texas Tech.
