U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham today warned that Republican lawmakers would call for President Barack Obama's impeachment if he releases any more prisoners from Guantanamo Bay without having first obtained congressional approval, according to a story posted at TheHill.com.
After the swap this weekend of five Taliban prisoners from Guantanamo in exchange for captured Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, Republicans worry Obama may try to shut down the prison camp unilaterally, the story says.
"It's going to be impossible for them to flow prisoners out of Gitmo now without a huge backlash," Graham said. "There will be people on our side calling for his impeachment if he did that."
Graham, R-South Carolina, served as a House prosecutor during former President Clinton's 1998 impeachment trial.
